The Tonight Show with Jorge Castillo
The Tonight Show with Jorge Castillo, or just The Tonight Show for short, is the successor ("Season 2") of Paper Jorge's original 2009 comic series, Friday Night Live. The Tonight Show was first teased in January 2010 in User Soup Episode 32, but complications with Jorge being banned again from Userpedia caused its debut to be delayed to July 6, 2012, almost three years after the last Friday Night Live issue. The comic remained a Super Mario Boards exclusive for four years, but managed to be nominated for several MarioWiki Awards. The final issue, Episode 9, concluded the series a year after it began, on July 12, 2013.
As Jorge describes the comic, its a series of "outdated jokes, extensive amounts of user cameos, worn out running gags, and lackluster pop culture references you won't get." Like the previous series, new issues debuted only on Fridays. Jorge worked closely with SonicMario for this project, with SonicMario providing a spin-off series with its own Tumblr page, which has since disappeared off the face of the internet.
Despite releasing three years after Friday Night Live and Jorge's ban, the series was still met with much positive acclaim, and ranked highly in Favorite Comic Awards for the MarioWiki Awards.
The series picks up three years after Friday Night Live ends, with Jorge addressing his Userpedia ban and citing that as the reason for the mass delay. Like in Friday Night Live, the set for this show is in the former house of Wayoshi, who Jorge kicked out. For this series, Jorge hires SonicMario as his co-host and Brayds2006 as his technician. Blocky (in his Purple Ninjakoopa character) also returns in Episode 2, and becomes somewhat of a recurring anti-hero, who gains Jorge's trusts, but his true motives are to take over the show.
Wilson the Headcrab replaces Doshi as Jorge's pet from Friday Night Live, as it is explained Doshi died sometime between the two comic series. Unlike Doshi, Wilson does not speak and instead, just attacks guests. He has been “de-beaked” so that he can't actually hurt them, and instead just nibbles innocently on their heads. Other recurring characters include Porplemontage, who is a heroic comic relief, Toadbert101, a protestor heavily opposed to the show, Mebule, a new character who serves as Jorge's lawyer, Tucayo, who delivers alcoholic drinks (replacing the coffee delivery ParaBob-omb in FNL), and finally the band known as "We'll think of a band name later stfu" which includes Lakituthequick, Galactic Petey and PyroGuy.
Two spin-off Award Presentations comics by Jorge tied in to the lore of The Tonight Show, but with Imageshack remodeling their site and removing mass amounts of images, they have seemingly since gone missing. The issues took place between Episode 4 and 5, and featured Mebule taking over the show, while 2257 and Turboo kidnapped Jorge and tied him up in a remote island location.
